At mame-eco, we work to circulate used coffee grounds from your home as a valuable local resource.

Simply bring your used coffee grounds to one of our collection spots across Kyoto. These grounds are transformed into compost by local farmers, becoming the energy needed to grow delicious new vegetables.

Joining is Easy!

  • Reduce Waste: Reduce your household garbage and participate in recycling with ease.
  • Mold is Perfectly Fine!: Don’t worry if your coffee grounds have started to grow mold—it is a natural part of the decomposition process and is completely safe for composting. Our farmers welcome your coffee grounds as they are!

This store requests that only coffee grounds are put in the collection bucket, so please don’t include filters, etc. You are also asked to remove your coffee grounds from the container that you brought them in before putting the grounds in the collection bucket, and take your container, bag, etc. back home with you. Only coffee grounds should be put in the collection bucket.
